When it comes to the many Android media players that are on the market today there is one brand that has remained at the top of the list when it comes to quality and that is Zidoo. Zidoo for a long time now has been known for producing some of the best media players there is that are backed by top notch support. Regular firmware updates and feature additions and improvements have seen Zidoo media player go from strength to strength to match customer demands, so lets take a look and see if their latest media player carries on that trend with our Zidoo X6 Pro review.
Zidoo X6 Pro – What’s in the Box?
Upon opening the Zidoo X6 Pro box you find that they have included everything that you need to get started, including a HDMI cable which is great to see. There are far too many companies that do not supply HDMI cables with their products.
In the box you will find:

A Sleek and Minimal Design
When you first take the Zidoo X6 Pro Android media player out of the backs you are instantly taken back by the sleek and minimal design. Most media players we are used to come in your stock standard cookie cutter design consisting of a large black plastic square with a bright light on the front, nothing to really write home about. When looking at the Zidoo X6 Pro design however you can tell Zidoo is making all the effort they can to ensure that you will be happy to display their media player front and center in your home theater setup.
Instead of cheap black plastic you are presented with smooth brushed aluminium with thin black trim. The front face is flush with no protruding buttons or overpowering logos and the Zidoo logo is place subtly on top of the media player.
On the back and side of the Zidoo X6 Pro you will find all inputs and outputs which a fitted nice and flush into the housing ensuring that there are no edges poking out of input too deep in the unit. The input and outputs are very clearly labeled which is a nice touch. One thing that isn’t on the device is a power button as the device start automatically when powered on.
If you didn’t know any better you would think the Zidoo X6 Pro was an Apple product. And that’s one heck of a compliment.
The Ins and Outs of it
On the left and rear of the Zidoo X6 Pro media player you will find a series of inputs and outputs.
Located on the left side you will find 1x USB port, 1x USB/OTG port and a Micro SD card slot to expand you storage.
Turning to the rear of the media player you will find the DC input for your power adapter, Composite Video, Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI Out and Optical Audio Out.
Zidoo Puts You in Control of Your Media
Included with the Zidoo X6 Pro is an IR remote control that is used to control the media player and your entertainment. The IR remote control works well, is responsive and offers a lot of functionality. The remote includes your buttons for your standard Android functions including an app switch button which is fantastic.
One of the best features of the remote control is that the 3 coloured buttons on the remote control can be mapped to launch specific apps on the Zidoo X6 Pro. This is an awesome functionality to have so you can, for example, easily switch between Kodi, Netflix and Hulu without needing to trawl through a heap of on screen menus.
Another great feature of the included remote control is that it contains remote learning functionality. This gives you 5 buttons on the remote control that can be used to learn functions from other IT devices. You can essentially use the one remote control to turn on your TV, access your devices and control your media. No more having to use 3 different remote controls just to watch a movie!
The included remote control is great however I would have liked to have seen a BlueTooth remote control instead of an IT remote control. Having said that, this is definitely one of the best IR remotes out there.

Initial Setup and the Dashboard
Setup of the Zidoo X6 Pro is a breeze. Simply connect the power adapter, plug in your HDMI cable and connect to your TV. Once the device starts simple follow the setup instruction to connect to your internet and off you go. If you do get stuck there is an instruction manual included in the box.
As there is no power button on the Zidoo X6 Pro as soon as you plug the media player in the device will boot up automatically. I found that the media player took about 20 seconds to boot up from being powered off to being fully functional. Not a bad time at all.
Using the included remote control you are able to turn the Zidoo X6 Pro media player on and off as well as put the device into standby mode.
Once the media player has booted you are taken to the dashboard. The media player is powered by Android 5.1 and as with all Zidoo media player they provide a customised UI for their dashboard and the trend continue with the Zidoo X6 Pro. The newly updated ZIUI consists of a tile based layout similar to that of Microsoft’s Metro UI. The colour scheme is a mixture of different shades of grey which lend itself nicely to the design. The animation of the tiles and the transition between screens it smooth and seamless, this is one of the best launchers out there.
Zidoo, Keeping You up to Date
Zidoo believes strongly in supporting their products and as such OTA update functionality is included with the Zidoo X6 Pro media player allowing you to easily update the device with latest firmware releases. This is such a welcome addition. No more having to manually flash your media to update it like you do with other devices. Firmware updates are regularly released and beta firmware releases are made available often.
OTA update functionality is a huge win in my book.
The Zidoo X6 Pro comes with a few apps preinstalled:
OGYouTube – Custom YouTube app that allows you to download YouTube videos to the Zidoo media player
Zidoo RC – Allows remote control via your smartphone
Easycast – Provides DLNA and Airplay functionality so you can stream media between other devices
For media play back I used Kodi which is what I use for all of my media playback on my different media players. Kodi is available on the Google Play store for free.
Launching Kodi was a smooth experience and during my time using Kodi on the Zidoo X6 Pro I noticed no speed issues or bugs. Animations were smooth, navigation seamless and fluid and performance was great.
I ran AnTuTu Video Tester to determine media playback compatibility where it scored 972 points:
A 3DMark Icestorm test shows that the media player achieved a score of 7569.
Network Speed Test
The Zidoo X6 Pro is connected to my home network via an Ethernet cable whilst my internet connection is running on 100mb Fibre. Network performance on the Zidoo X6 Pro provided good, stable speeds both for download and upload which ensured smooth media playback when streaming:
